I’m glad you are back. This episode opened up a random memory of a computer game i loved as a kid (my mother was a computer teacher so i spent a lot of time trying out ‘educational’ games) called elroy’s costume closet. Basically you would operate those laundromat style conveyor belts to mix and match costumes for the characters before their big play ( with outfits like that, you’ll win a tony just walking on the stage!). It must have been released around the same time as clueless.
Omg Avery! I’m listening to the episode and just got to the part where your friend talks about using the app Stylebook, which is the app I use!! It definitely is very manual, but it’s so helpful to keep track of what I wear to work and just to analyze my wardrobe in general. So yes, others do use the app! 😉
Loved the nostalgia, the reveals, the mirror that was held up to ourselves with this episode. I recently binged Utopia and Articles of Interest and love this new content. I don’t mind a non-regular cadence. The quality is worth the wait! Thank you.
You enthused about vintage umbrellas, but if you’re open to new ones as well, have I got an umbrella for you: I _love_ my Blunt umbrella, the only design tested never to invert even under direct gale-force winds (off a great little debut sitelet called The Grommet where I’ve found a bunch of other innovative gems over the past decade and counting), plus has stylish and safe rounded tips instead of daggers liable to poke somebody in the eye. I bought their nifty mesh carry sling a few years ago but sadly that seems to have been too forward-thinking for consumers because it’s not longer made (maybe they can be persuaded to bring it back…?). Please look them up, I suspect you’ll find them as delightful as I do.
I found this podcat really interesting. I understand the frustration with current so called "smart closet" apps being tedious and not truly intelligent. Our upcoming smart closet product changes the game. You don’t have to take photos of each garment—it does it automatically for you and knows what's in your closet at any point in time. Plus, it helps you find items in your closet and provides personalized styling advice through AI. What sets our product apart is It's more than just an app; it's a physical product that turns any closet into a smart closet, offering a holistic "Cher closet experience". We're still in development, but you can join our waitlist if you're interested!
I'm sorry to be that guy, but touchscreens absolutely existed in 1995, and could been seen in information "kiosks" in public places, such as shopping centers or tourist information offices, even here in Australia (I remember it well!). They were invented in 1965, and were available as mass produced consumer products in the 80s and 90s: https://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/web/a14764511/a-crt-touchscreen-from-the-90s-shows-how-far-weve-come/
Oh incredible!! I’m so happy you’re making new episodes. I tried the app whearing but faced the same problem of it being to tedious to photograph all my items, then I saw a tiktok of sb just keeping a excel sheet on their closet and I bought her template and it works so good! Bc it’s so easy to add your items and keep the statistics 😅
This came out a couple of days before my birthday and I waited to listen so I could give myself the episode as a gift. I love Clueless, love your work, manage my whole closet in an app (formerly SmartCloset and now a self-rolled notion database) and am so excited you’re back!

My best friend made a clueless closet app for her programming final!

I use stylebook! Unfort its soo annoying to log a mostly thrifted/vintage wardrobe
Nice episode.
P.S.: How did you manage to embed Spotify player into Substack. Is it magic? 🪄
