I wrote about this a while back!

Loved the real-world anecdotes about working in a perfume store and Mandy Aftel is a legend.

This is the most interesting and amazing article I have read in a long time. I have a very unsatisfied interest in smell. More more! Thank you

What an interesting time in the discourse. It's so interesting to read this just as the Indian diaspora us having the "scent racism" conversation again! Thanks for writing it up.

I was trying to figure out why this essay didn't quite hit for me and this comment is what made it click. Raising the question of who gets to play with smelling like shit for fun as a vibe and then not answering it is kind of a letdown. I am gonna be cooking on that thought more

Loved this!!! My mom sat in on one of Emma Vernon's smell clubs with me recently, we were smelling different Jasmines, and she kept asking my why so many people were calling things 'poopy'. Bring on all the indolic poopy smells! lol

Hooray! As a smell-sensitive person this perfume boom has been a bit of torture, but I'm ALWAYS delighted to get some extra ESK!

Hyrax by Sven Pritzkoleit has real Hyraeceum not synthetic; it’s the civet and castoreum that are synthetic, note the different italics on the zoo website itself https://www.zoologistperfumes.com/products/zoologist-hyrax-deluxe-bottle?srsltid=AfmBOoq-nKJhaIBqq0d0fAloy0zcUgIWPRGbGGCT_h9cvAw_NlixOtVb

Ooh, thanks for the clarification! In some of their promo materials they advertise that they only use honey in terms of animal-derived ingredients, but this makes sense as to why the Hyraeceum note is so realistic—it’s real!

I must visit this museum! A lot of my favorite scents include some funk. Bearded iris and passion fruit to name two.
