American Ivy is a real triumph. Who knew the history of Ivy style could be so compelling? Avery did!!! A big thanks to you and your team. The shows were well structured and edited - and best of all - great story telling. Besides Ivy, I feel I have a great understanding of the evolution of American style. Well done!
Avery, I came upon American Ivy after hearing you interviewed on NPR. Kudos for a compelling series on Ivy style, and finding a way to contextualize it into a history lesson that transcends clothes. I always professed to being anti-prep — certainly in high school and college — but over the years adopted chinos and polo shirts and other elements (but never, ever boat shoes, which I consider to be a key preppy signifier).
You're narration is terrific, professional but friendly. My wife and I inhaled the entire series during a car ride to Georgia and back. Thanks for making the long drives far more bearable.
All your picks are now in my library, thanks for the recommendations.
Side note, I purchased Take Ivy (which suddenly went from $200 to $26 on Amazon thanks to you) and even found a thrifted copy of the Preppy Handbook. I love it when a podcast points me to a book!
Thank you for the Ivy series, I’ve never seen it document so in depth and learning about the improbable Japanese connection was so surprising, talk about butterfly effect.
Hey Avery, I first heard you on 99PI and loved your approach. It’s been great to hear articles of interest emerge and your story telling just gets better and better.
Great to see you recommend some BBC pods. The Limelight strand which The System came from (second season now available) showcases some great new audio fiction. I would particularly recommend Exemplar in that strand.
So many great podcasts to add to my list! Thanks for shouting out a few creators/productions that have impacted you this year. I love that you’re hosting a class to share insight into your craft. I’m from Canada, but you‘ve got me contemplating an impromptu trip to NYC now 🤔
i love reading your thoughts about podcasts and what’s been inspiring you! i will try to listen to these :) i’m especially into cult stuff, so i’m excited for twin flames!
thank you always for your work and beautiful mind!

I’m sure you have seen or someone had sent you a link to this article in the NYTimes today, but I’m really curious about your reaction to it. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/17/style/george-santos-style.html

I’ll see you there — I’m registered for the class, which I’m anticipating with equal parts anxiety and excitement :)
